I am the Executive Director of Program Management Standards, Controls, and Delivery for NANA Development Corporation, a $2B US, Alaska Native Corporation representing 12,500 Iñupiat Eskimo Shareholders of the Northwest Arctic. This position affords me a rich experience in the delivery of a variety of programs and projects in engineering and construction, resource development, facilities management and logistics, real estate and hotel development, and information technology and telecommunications. My background includes Chief Technology Officer for the Barrow Arctic Science Consortium, coordinating and managing international science projects across the Arctic; and Chief Information Officer for Tanadgusix Corporation, the village corporation on Saint Paul Island in the Bering Sea of Alaska. These positions have instilled upon me a rich understanding and respect for the traditional and subsistence lives our shareholders live every day. These communities, and the projects I manage, struggle with challenges and adversities most of us never deal with, including logistics and supply chain difficulties, lack of access to common support services, weather, and remote issues that magnify with being off a road system. With a Master’s degree in Rural Development, my focus was to ensure sustainable successes in projects in our rural areas, creating opportunities that allowed people to not migrate to the cities or hub communities. My professional and educational focus on project management and rural development has afforded many opportunities to speak at forums, to the media and government – to ensure that urban residents do not lose sight of challenges that rural communities often prodigiously plan around.
