John Rense has served in a number of senior-level capacities at NANA, including chief operating officer, vice president-resources, vice president-regional operations, president of WHPacific, and sector lead of NANA’s engineering, construction, and real estate holdings. Over the last 20 years, Rense spearheaded many acquisitions and joint ventures for the company, including engineering and design firms, creation of the NANA hospitality businesses, and was critical in the development and growth of the Red Dog Mine and the associated NANA-businesses that are critical to the staffing and operation of the mine. In addition, John led his own business, JRE, LLC, which focused on strategic planning and organizational transformations.

A native of Colorado, Rense received both Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science degrees from the Colorado School of Mines in geological engineering and mineral economics, respectively. He has served as chairman, officer or board member of many civic and trade organizations, some of which have included the Resource Development Council of Alaska, Alaska Native Heritage Center, Alaska Miners Association, Alaska Council of Economic Education, Girdwood 2020 and the Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau. Rense is also a member of Tau Beta Pi, a national honorary engineering society.
